PRP is an immunotherapeutic agent that has a number of beneficial effects including:
• improved oral hygiene,
• increased gingival and periodontal health,
• reduction of tooth loss and extraction rates,
• reduced incidence of periodontal disease, plaque and gingivitis.
But it doesn’t work for everyone. PRP is an immuno-stimulant and can cause allergic reactions. Some people have allergic reactions to the platelet-rich plasma (PRP), while others have a very rare case of hypersensitivity to the platelets themselves. This can be a problem if prp is injected into the mouth. If you have a lot of PRP (through your dentist) on your crown or other implants then it could be an issue — though this doesn’t affect those who are not particularly PRP-sensitive.
