Ayurvedic medicine has its origins in vedic or Brahmin Atharvaveda. According to 'Mriga Samhita' a book of Ayurveda Ayurveda originated in the Himalayan region. It was created by Lord Brahma. At that time, there were only herbs, no plants were cultivated. The herbs were cultivated by sages that is why Ayurveda is also called as 'Sarvang' i.e. the treatment for all diseases. Ayurveda is the 5000 old traditional Indian healing system of medicine. The word Ayurveda is originated from the Sanskrit word Ayus which means Life and Veda which means Knowledge. This is the 2nd oldest system of health care. Ayurveda is not only limited to the treatment of certain diseases but it also focuses on the preventive aspects of health, the principle of holistic health, the natural healing ability of the body and the use of herbs. It is said that Ayurveda has been derived by extracting the essence of all the sacred knowledge of the world. |
